Careers at JLS

Senior practitioners, engaged where the work is real

JLS Technology is a boutique firm. We put experienced people directly in front of the client’s problem rather than layering them under account management — which means we hire for judgement and independence more than for a title.

Direct client work

Engagement-based

Fractional, contract and project engagements alongside permanent roles

Senior by default

Small teams where individual judgement carries weight

Introduce yourself

We do not always carry a published vacancy list. Work arrives through client engagements, so the useful thing is for us to know who you are before the need appears — most people we bring in were already known to us.

Send a CV and a short note about the work you want to be doing to Jobs@jlstech.com.

Where we engage people

These are the areas JLS actually works in, so they are where engagements come from:

  • Cybersecurity and security operations. Monitoring, detection and response, incident readiness, vulnerability and perimeter work.
  • Governance, risk and compliance. Framework translation, audit evidence, and CMMC readiness for the defense industrial base and its suppliers.
  • AI governance and adoption. Policy and control frameworks, and helping teams adopt tooling without losing control of data.
  • Executive technology leadership. Fractional CIO, CTO, CISO and CAIO work with accountability for direction, not just advice.
  • Software development. Building and integrating systems clients own outright.

What we look for

The common thread is people who can be put in front of a client on day one.

  • Judgement over process. You can tell which risks matter to this organisation and which are noise, and say so plainly.
  • Comfort with ambiguity. Engagements rarely arrive fully specified. Working out the real question is part of the job.
  • Clear communication with non-technical leadership. Much of the work ends in a decision someone else has to own.
  • Genuine independence. Small teams mean nobody is checking your work daily. That suits some people and not others.
  • Discretion. Client environments, regulated data and security findings all demand it.

How engagements usually work

Being straightforward about this saves everyone time. JLS is a boutique firm, and much of the work is delivered through fractional and contract engagements rather than a large permanent bench.

  • Contract and fractional engagements are the most common route, often tied to a specific client programme.
  • Specialist engagements are brought in per project where a practice needs particular depth.
  • Permanent roles exist but are less frequent, and are usually filled by people we have already worked with.
  • Remote is normal; some client work requires travel or on-site presence.

If you are looking for a large structured graduate programme, this is not that. If you want senior work with direct client contact, it may suit you well.

Current openings

Published vacancies are listed here when we have them. If nothing is listed, we are still interested in hearing from strong people in the areas above — introductions made before a need arises are the ones that tend to lead somewhere.

Send a CV and a short note to Jobs@jlstech.com. Tell us the kind of engagement you are looking for and the environments you have worked in. We read everything that arrives.

Recruiting for clients is a different service

If you arrived here looking to hire rather than be hired, JLS also runs technical recruiting for client organisations — sourcing and placing technology and security talent. That is a separate offering: see recruiting services.
